5 Ways to Give Yourself More Time
Is your ‘To Do’ list getting longer every day? Do you avoid doing some jobs because they have gotten out of control and you fear what you’ll find? You are not alone.
These are signs that you could use some help! Here are 5 easy ways to help you become more efficient and ease that time crunch.
- 1. Do the jobs you least like first thing in the morning. Once you get in the habit of doing this, you will feel some of the stress leave. It feels awful having an unpleasant and unfinished task sitting on your head. Your neck will hurt. Get these tasks out of the way, and the rest of your day will be easier. I promise!
- 2. Consider hiring a business coach. You may only need a few sessions to get on track with your goals and a plan. A good coach makes you accountable. In the same way visiting a diet center to weigh in makes you watch what you eat (no one wants the humiliation of getting caught after eating that box of cookies and actually gaining!) a business coach will help you to create a plan and stick to your goals. You become accountable to yourself.
- 3. Delegate. No one person can do everything. Part of the reason small businesses have such a high failure rate is that entrepreneurs can be ‘control freaks’. They believe they have to do it all. This is simply not true. Some of the most successful business owners became that way by hiring great people and delegating to them. Do you always put your web design on hold because you just are too busy or not really good at it? You can’t be good at everything. Find a graphic web designer who is a specialist. - 4. Quit trying to be all things to all people. This overlaps into the ‘Delegate’ category somewhat. You are likely in business because you are really good at something – sales, creating a product, or providing a service. James, a great salesman, wanted to spend more time interacting with his customers face to face. He was so bogged down by paperwork and accounting he was stuck in his office – and miserable. Once he hired an accountant, he was free to grow his business.
- 5. Take time out each day to play. It doesn’t have to be long. When you were a toddler and got tired, crabby and out of sorts, there is a good chance your mother made you take a ‘time out’. There was a good reason for it. Humans do get ‘overload’. When this happens, you are no longer efficient. Dance, play, pursue something you love. Even if it is only for 15 – 30 minutes. You might feel silly at first, but in a few weeks, you will feel joy. Joy will make you better at everything you do.
